Overview
High-definition liposuction (HD Lipo, abdominal etching, muscle-definition liposuction) is a precision form of body contouring that selectively removes fat in patterns that emphasise underlying muscle anatomy. Done well, it produces an athletic, sculpted appearance — the visual result of someone who trains intensively.
At Kensington Cosmetic Clinic HD Lipo is performed personally by Dr Hassan Soueid using VASER (ultrasound-assisted) liposuction — the technology of choice for this work because it preserves connective tissue and allows precise sculpting around muscle borders.
We are honest about candidacy. HD Lipo is a refinement on a fit, healthy body — not a substitute for training. The best candidates are patients with low-to-moderate body fat (BMI <28, body fat ideally <22% for men, <30% for women) who already have underlying muscle development.
HD Lipo reveals the muscles you have built. It cannot create muscle that does not exist.

Treated Areas
HD Lipo is most often performed on the abdomen and flanks, but works for any anatomic area where muscle definition is the goal.
Abdominal etching ('six-pack')
Sculpting around the rectus abdominis muscles to reveal the six-pack pattern. The most-requested HD Lipo procedure.
Linea semilunaris definition
The vertical lines either side of the abdomen marking the lateral edges of the rectus muscle — defining these creates the 'V-taper' silhouette.
Linea alba
The vertical line down the centre of the abdomen between the rectus muscles. Subtle deepening enhances the sculpted appearance.
Chest definition
Sculpting around the pectoral muscle borders for a more defined chest in lean men. Often combined with subtle gynaecomastia treatment.
Arm definition
Sculpting around the biceps and triceps borders for a more athletic arm contour. Best in already-trained patients.
Shoulder & deltoid definition
Selective fat removal around the deltoid for a more athletic shoulder line.
Glute definition
Sculpting around the gluteus borders — combined with selective fat transfer for projection where indicated.
Quadriceps and hamstring definition
Leg muscle definition for already-trained athletes. A demanding case selection — most patients are better served by training rather than surgery for legs.
Calf definition
Selective fat removal around the calf muscle for athletes seeking refined definition.

Investment
Every patient is different — the area, technique and number of stages shape the plan. We share full pricing during your private consultation, after Dr Hassan or your treating clinician has reviewed your goals in person.
Before
The Treatment
Two consultations standard — the first reviews candidacy honestly and (if proceeding) maps the planned definition pattern; the second confirms operative date.
Performed under general anaesthetic in our CQC-registered theatre. Operative time 3–4 hours.
Step by Step
HD Lipo refines what is already there. The journey assumes you have already built the muscle definition we are about to reveal.
01 · The Consultation
Body fat, underlying muscle development and frame all reviewed. Honest assessment of whether you are a candidate yet — or whether six more months of training would serve you better. Photography from five views.
02 · Preparation
Six weeks smoking-free. Two weeks off blood-thinners. Optimise body composition — patients who lean down before surgery get better definition. Two compression garments bought ahead. Ten to fourteen days of social downtime.
03 · The Procedure
Personally performed by Dr Hassan. Muscle borders marked with patient flexed and standing. VASER ultrasound emulsifies superficial fat at the borders; then careful sculpting follows your real anatomy — never an artificial template.
04 · Recovery & Aftercare
Compression for six weeks. Lymphatic drainage from week one — essential for HD Lipo to define properly. No resistance training for four weeks; full training at six. Long-term result depends on continued training discipline.

Questions
Done conservatively, yes. Done aggressively, HD Lipo can produce an obviously-sculpted look that reads as artificial — particularly when the etched pattern does not match the patient's actual underlying anatomy. We follow your real muscle borders, not a template, which is why the result reads as a fit person rather than a sculpted person.
Fat cells removed do not return, but remaining cells in the area can grow with weight gain. Significant weight gain after HD Lipo can blur the definition created. Maintaining stable weight and continued training preserves the result indefinitely.
No. HD Lipo refines what is already there — if there is no underlying muscle development, the etched pattern reveals nothing. Patients without prior training history need at least 6 months of consistent resistance training before we would consider HD Lipo. We are honest at consultation if you are not yet a candidate.
Bruising and discomfort are real for the first 7–10 days. Pain itself is well-controlled. The compression garment, lymphatic drainage and tracking of swelling are the main ongoing demands during recovery.
